New Anti-gravity Paper

By Kevin Golovin | June 20, 2024

Moving liquids vertically against gravity is something plants have done for millennia. But moving single droplets is substantially more difficult, but an important step in certain microfluidic applications. Xiaoxiao (now Prof. Zhao at UMaine) and co-author’s latest study gives a new method for moving droplets against gravity, with some important design principles uncovered for doing… Read more »

New (invited) Publication on PFAS-free Oleophobic Fabrics

By Kevin Golovin | May 21, 2024

The world is slowly moving away from PFAS use and the textile space is being hit hard because of this, at least in terms of maintaining oil-resistant and stain-proof apparel. Well, the DREAM Lab is trying to come up with solutions. In Sadaf’s latest work, we discuss how different fabric constructions control the resultant oil-repellency… Read more »

New Microfibre Reduction Paper!

By Kevin Golovin | March 26, 2024

Our original work developing fabric finishes that could substantially mitigate microplastic fibre (MPF) release was limited to PDMS brushes deposited on nylon fabrics. Lahiri and co-authors have now extended this concept (low-friction brushes + durable primer) to polyester, and have added PFPE and PEG-based brushes as well. This is now a comprehensive strategy for mitigating… Read more »
