The OPERA Lab has been awarded a second Innovation for Defence Excellence and Security (IDEaS) contract to keep our Canadian Armed Forces members safe in Northern Canada. We’ll be exploring how their gear can better resist the negative effects of ice, snow, and frost. Pretty cool! IDEaS

The OPERA Lab has been awarded a Solutions Grant from the Peter Wall Institute for Advanced Studies. We will be developing a mosquito-repellent paint in collaboration with Loop Recycled Products and The Kyzox Foundation. More information here.

Smooth, All-Solid, Low-Hysteresis, Omniphobic Surfaces with Enhanced Mechanical Durability

Matt’s work on fabricating low hysteresis, omniphobic surfaces is now published! Check it out here. This is the first report of omniphobic surfaces that can repel essentially all liquids without relying of fragile micro-texture or lubrication. Durability-wise, these surfaces maintain their liquid repellency far better than any other state-of-the-art coating!
