The world is slowly moving away from PFAS use and the textile space is being hit hard because of this, at least in terms of maintaining oil-resistant and stain-proof apparel. Well, the DREAM Lab is trying to come up with solutions. In Sadaf’s latest work, we discuss how different fabric constructions control the resultant oil-repellency of textiles treated with our PDMS brush-based fabric finish (fluorine free). This work is an important step in understanding how to manufacture non-fluorinated fabrics that can still provide highly repellent finish properties, which are crucial for medical, defence, and extreme sports applications.
